Whilst we add the finishing touches to our brand new, state-of-the-art world class marketplace (coming mid-October), we thought we’d shout out to our neighbours in and around Brisbane, making our suggestions for our pick of some of the best things to do in the area.

  1. Walk through Brisbane’s South Bank

Arguably the most beautiful area in the CBD, the South Bank’s mix of entertainment, recreation and leisure activities makes it the perfect place to visit, whether exploring, relaxing or exercising.

The South Bank features 17 hectares, filled to the rafters with parklands, restaurants, cafes and bars. What’s more, you can experience our very own man-made beach.  It’s free to use, surrounded by glistening white sand and luscious plants.

The South Bank is also perfect for exercising – walk or cycle whilst seeing the best of the city.

  1. Soak up the Art at QAG and GoMA

Australia’s largest gallery of modern and contemporary art, GoMA and the iconic Queensland Art Gallery are located across two riverside buildings in the South Bank, and offer an impressive range of diverse Australian and international art as well as two galleries devoted exclusively to contemporary Indigenous work.

Set inside two of Brisbane’s architectural wonders, this is a must-see in the CBD. GoMA even has a bar for you to enjoy a drink in stylish surroundings, just like Mercado.

  1. Visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Located in Fig Tree Pocket, this koala sanctuary is home to over 130 koalas, making it the largest sanctuary in the world.  These beautiful, but often elusive creatures are nurtured and rehabilitated in the sanctuary.  By visiting the sanctuary, you can not only connect with the animals and experience their habitat but also contribute to their conservation.

  1. Climb Brisbane’s Story Bridge

For those who dare, Brisbane’s Story Bridge can be climbed at various times – dawn, dusk or twilight. For your efforts, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of this amazing city and far beyond to the Gold Coast or the Glasshouse Mountains.

The heritage bridge opened in 1940 and is now as much of an icon to Brisbane as the Harbour Bridge is to Brisbane.  Story Bridge Adventure Climb also offer tailored climbs for birthdays and other celebrations.  A unique way to spend some time!

  1. Eat and Drink on King Street

Arguably Brisbane’s most iconic location, King Street, AKA ’Queensland’s Playground’ has traditionally been home to the Brisbane Showgrounds.  With an influx of savvy shoppers, diners and residents, King Street has become an ideal place to drink, dine, shop and relax.

This vibrant and growing neighbourhood is alive with activity, not to mention it’s home to ten of the best restaurants, cafes and bistros in the area.  Having such exceptional neighbours is the reason we’ve decided to launch our prestigious new venue on King Street.

So, whilst you’re waiting for Australia’s ultimate fresh food marketplace to open, why not take a look around the area?
