King Street – Brisbane’s City-Fringe Mecca

Mercado is preparing to launch its food wonderland in October 2018 on King Street, Brisbane’s ultimate urban hotspot. Whilst we’re cooking up a treat for the senses, we thought we’d fill you in on why we’ve chosen King Street as the home of Mercado.

The Brisbane Showgrounds has long been in the hearts of Brisbanites – home to the Royal Queensland Show or the Ekka as it’s affectionately known. King Street as a high street sprung to life in 2016 and has gone from strength-to-strength with a host of bars, restaurants and shops moving in to create a buzzing urban area. King Street already has thousands of residents and savvy workers moving in, making it the fastest growing precinct on the city-fringe.

Mercado is set to open on King Street in mid-October 2018 and is destined to be the ultimate foodie paradise. We’ll be championing fresh produce in a vast array of possibilities; meats, cheeses, delicatessen, speciality teas, the freshest fish and groceries all in one exquisite venue you’ll have to see to believe. What’s more, we think that food shopping and food tasting should be an experience, which is why we’ll be featuring live chef demonstrations, tastings, sommeliers and more. Whilst you’re checking us out, here’s a few other things to do and see along King Street;

1. Stay overnight at Rydges

King Street’s flagship four-star hotel is our next door neighbour. A visit to Rydges features just what you’d expect; luxury, spacious rooms, all the mod-cons and a chic outdoor pool for those hot days. How about an evening of food and drink at Mercado followed by an overnight stay? Make a weekend of it!

2. Visit a gallery

Artisan, Queensland’s home of craft and design, have been around for since 1970, recently moving across the road from Mercado on King Street. Artisan is a not-for-profit, promoting contemporary craft and design practice for makers and audiences alike.

3. Sharpen up!

Emporium Barber brings a further air of sophistication to King Street. With a twist on traditional grooming techniques, Emporium Barber specialises in cut-throat shaves, hairstyling and grooming for the modern gentleman.

4. Pamper yourself

One for the ladies – Tigerlamb chose to open their newest, flagship salon down the road from Mercado. Tigerlamb is all about beautiful styling and creating phenomenal hair experiences for every customer. In just a few months you’ll be able to order beautiful produce for collection from Mercado whilst pampering yourself just a few doors down.

5. Marvel at 25 King

By the end of the year, you’ll have architectural perfection on both ends of the street. King Street is home to the world’s largest and tallest engineered timber office building, 25 King. The development is swiftly becoming one of the most exciting additions to the Brisbane skyline, and is set to open its doors in just a few weeks.

Whilst there are far too many fantastic businesses to mention in this article, you can head over to our friends at King Street Brisbane for more inspiration.
