Saturday, November 3 marked the beginning of a new foodie era with the opening of Mercado in the heart of new world city, Brisbane.
This architectural masterpiece has set the global standard for food marketplaces and is now on the map as a must do for Brisbane locals, tourists and foodies alike.
With a host of retail spaces offering a smorgasbord of fresh seafood, produce, deli and charcuterie items, patisserie, liquor, florals, and two dining venues boasting mouthwatering menus, it’s no wonder people are calling Mercado their very own food wonderland.
General Manager of the King Street property, Shaun Dunleavy says that while the venue may be ostentatious, its prices are not.
“When you first visit the venue you expect everything to come with a gold-plated price tag. You’d be wrong. We invite people to stay a while and take a closer look to see that above all we are a marketplace that is here to deliver customers fresh food items that don’t cost the earth. We simply chose to give them a beautiful space to come and do their shopping.”
“We wanted to bring to life a space that brought people together over a mutual love for food. We wanted to revive the hustle and bustle, the community that comes with traditional marketplaces. I think we did it – with a luxury spin of course! Why not give people a beautiful place to be?”
The venue has been open for two weeks and is gearing up for the festive season. Mercado’s spokesperson, Shaun Dunleavy, says the venue is going to set a new standard for Christmas in Brisbane.
“Christmas is going to be our most wonderful time of year. We’ve got some spectacular things coming and the Mercado family are excited to see the look on your faces when you enter the store from the 1st of December, he said.
“There is nothing more magical than Christmas and you won’t have to travel to Harrods, Macy’s or Galeries Lafayette to experience a spectacle. We’ve got everything from beautiful Christmas displays, in-store gift wrapping and concierge on hand to assist you with your Christmas purchases.”
“The star of the show is going to be our 4kg turkeys. They are to be pre-prepped by our executive chef and boxed in our limited edition Christmas packaging with a perfectly paired bottle of wine, condiment range and a recipe card to make sure you have the most delicious Christmas turkey. Brisbane won’t have seen anything like it.”
Mercado is the first of two venues to open, the next arriving at Marina Mirage on the Gold Coast at the end of 2019.
